Brownies With a Slight Hiccup

Brownies With A Slight Hiccup

Do you LOVE chocolate brownies as much as I do? Well if you do, here's the recipe for you!

Ingredients:
  • 4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 Tbsp. brandy based orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier® or coffee based liqueur such as Kahlúa. I have also used Crème de Menthe and Frangelico(a hazelnut liqueur)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. orange zest
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Grease and flour an 8 inch square baking pan.
  3. Over low heat, melt chocolate and butter in a medium saucepan.
  4. Stir until smooth.
  5. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  6. In a large bowl, beat brown and white sugar and eggs until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes with an electric mixer).
  7. Add melted chocolate, 3 Tbsp. of Grand Marnier / Kahlúa, vanilla and orange zest, mixing until well blended.
  8. Mix in flour salt and chocolate chips on low speed if using an electric mixer.
  9. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  10. Smooth the top.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until sides look done and top feels firm or by inserting a toothpick 2 inches from center and it should come out clean. Don't be tricked though because the center will appear less baked and will look undercooked.
  12. Remove from the oven and brush top with remaining 1 Tbsp. (or a splash more) of Grand Marnier / Kahlúa.
  13. Allow to cool completely then cover pan with plastic wrap or foil.
  14. Cut into 1 inch squares.
  15. Store covered at room temperature.
  16. These freeze very well but always defrost at room temperature, not in the refrigerator.
