1 lb. (4 cups) thinly sliced potatoes 10 pieces of herring (available preserved in jars) 1 onion, chopped1/4 tsp. white pepper 1 egg 2 cups milk, homogenized 1 Tbsp. flour
Layer the following ingredients into a well-greased casserole dish.1. Potatoes2. Herring3. Chopped onion4. Finish off with a layer of potatoes.Mix egg, milk, pepper and flour together.Pour mixture on top of potatoes, herring and onion.Bake in a moderate oven (380F) for about two hours, until well done.
Note: If you want, a good sized handful of Swiss cheese is a nice addition.
